DENVER, CO -- Colorado Gov. Bill Owens (R) has indicated he will give his signature to legislation that bans smoking in bars and restaurants throughout the state beginning July 1, reports the Denver Post.
The newspaper writes that several Senate amendments attempted to exclude bingo parlors and taverns from the bill, but in the end the only exemptions will be casinos, small businesses, smoke shops, family farms, cigar bars and the smoking lounge at Denver International Airport.
Colorado will become the 13th state to enforce a statewide smoking ban.
Meanwhile, on March 16, reports the Associated Press, Utah became the 12th state to enforce a smoking ban when Gov. Jon Huntsman signed a bill that bans smoking in non-private places such as restaurants, country clubs and fraternal organizations starting Jan. 1, 2007, and bans smoking in private clubs and taverns beginning Jan. 1, 2009. |
